Drugfighters Turning Around A City?
On Friday nights, some of Angleton's citizens gather to get on a flatbed truck and, escorted by the Angleton Police, the flatbed takes them into neighborhoods where drugs are being sold, where they wave flashlights and chant slogans like "Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Crack Cocaine Has Got To Go!" and "Up With Hope! Down With Dope!"
They are called Turn Around Angleton Drugfighters...
Angleton is just one community participating in Turn Around America-The Wrice Process, founded by Herman Wrice and Andy Garr, where it's citizens actively take a part in chasing drug dealers out of town, when Angleton's citizen's were last involved with this in 1999, they were inducted by the Texas Senate into the Texas Drugfighters Hall of Fame for their "extraordinary effort and strength of purpose" and commended for their "courage, commitment, and dedication that make Texans proud."
Opinions about this are divided, of course, where some folks agree with the 76th Texas Legislature, others believe that it's misguided, ineffective, and a shabby way to treat other humans...
At first I thought this was plain silly and was just glad that the folks waved flashlights and not torches, but I gave it some more thought...
Angleton is part of what is referred to as The Brazosport Area, a bunch of small cities, that together, is designated by the US Census Bureau as a "Small Urban Area," now being off drugs for a little over 17 years, I try to help folks who are trying to get off drugs, and hear from them how they bought their drugs around here, basically, when the dope houses in their city were out of the drugs they wanted, they would go to one of the dope houses in another city...
So if it's Friday night and someone in another city is trying to buy drugs in their town and the dope houses are out of the drugs that they want, then they go to Angleton to buy their drugs and see this spectacle, it's a pretty safe bet that they will turn around and leave Angleton that night, and I can imagine that a good number of them will not come back to Angleton to buy their drugs...
Still, only time will tell if it will work in Angleton, it will be great for Angleton if it does, hope everyone has a Super Wonderful Wednesday, take care and God Bless......Mikey
Wednesday, February 28, 2007 2/27/07 Angleton City Council Report!
You can read this Angleton City Council report and others, as well as other posts about the City of Angleton, Texas in this blog's archives at:
As long time readers know, there was a shake up of Angleton's local media outlets, which resulted in this blog being Angleton's oldest source for the city's news, which, although I haven't been to one for some months, includes covering the Angleton City Council, the great group of folks who pull double duty, preparing Angleton for the upcoming population explosion and keeping it's current residents happy at the same time, it's amazing that they don't pull out all their hair...
When arriving at City Hall I found that there is now a park in front of it...
A lot has happened while I've been negligent in my duties, Mayor Sebesta became County Commissioner Sebesta and Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Henry became the new mayor, while Roger Collins became Mayor Pro Tem...
Paul Feazelle is the new Interim City Manager, replacing Michael Stoldt, and Councilman Jason Perez is the Angleton Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year...

And Gregg Dykes is now filling Roger Collins' slot, but he was not there for me to take his picture, so will have to get it the next time I am there...
As mentioned in previous posts, Angleton finally adopted a new smoking ordinance in December and it takes effect March 1 and you can print your own "official Angleton no-smoking sign at www.angleton.tx.us/pdf/nosmoking.pdf, it's going to be interesting to see how folks here react to it...
And now that we are caught up on old news, it's time to get to coverage of this month's Angleton City Council meeting...
One of the things that's part of Angleton is trains running through it day and night, one of the citizens had bought a decibel meter and reported that the train horns were blowing at over 100 decibels...
Chamane from the Brazoria County Center For Independent Living spoke to the Council about the handicapped needing public transportation in the southern half of Brazoria County, she mentioned that her daughter had to go to college in Pennsylvania because there is no public transportation here, which led to the 1st action item...
Alan Rodenstein of A&R Consulting Solutions submitted his southern Brazoria County transit feasibility study (you can check out the summary here), showing that public transportation could run efficiently between Angleton, Clute, Freeport, and Lake Jackson (classified by the Census Bureau in 1993 as a small urban area) and requested funding for further study, after confusion about the cost of further study was settled, he received the funding...
We had 15 other action items this month, including improvements to Freedom Park, purchasing 3 new police vehicles and 17 new police digital video camera systems, review of the curfew ordinance, and more action on the never ending work of improving improving Angleton's sewers and wastewater treatment, Mayor Henry kept the meeting moving very efficiently...
Well, that's it for this month, hope everyone is having a really Fantastic Wednesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 Memories...
Well, I had to go into Houston to go to the doctor yesterday and after that just didn't feel like watching folks speak their mind about the smoking ban ordinance that the Angleton City Council had already decided to vote for, when the tax on cigarettes is going up $1 a pack on the 1st anyway, especially since I had just gotten the computer out of the shop, so I didn't go...
But (yeah, but), I want to share a photo I took today here in Angleton, which brought back memories from when I was a kid and most of the stop signs in my neighborhood had grafiti on them like this...
Even after editing the grafiti was a little light (but I have to gve the kids that did it credit, because it was at a busy intersection, where most everyone goes from what you would call Angleton's business district to the east side of town), so the blue circle was drawn on the photo as a highlight...
So anyway, hope everyone is having a really great week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Sunday, October 01, 2006 Michael Stoldt's last Tuesday Evening in Angleton...
First off, I apologize for getting this out so late, between the frustrations here at MySpace and the "Family Maters" rearing their ugly head once again, just haven't been up to it and have been doing other things, but will mention that one of the other things is setting things up to bring the "Poco Feliz Navidad" design into the iamnotagenious.com project (which will hopefully be by the end of the week), have also been switching the advertising over to the October ads and working on adding more ads, so with that now out of the way...
The original delay on this report of the Angleton City Council Meeting was so I could cover Michael Stoldt's farewell reception on Thursday, but since it started at 3pm and I had an appointment in Houston's Westchase area at 4:14pm, well, I was only there for about 5 minutes, but was able to get this photo taken...
Thanks to Robert Heinemeyer for taking the photo...
So to finally get to Tuesday, it was a pleasant meeting that only lasted an hour and a half, which included informal discussion of the City Council possibly going to Lampasas to heckle Michael Stoltz, and if they do I hope to cover it...
I got there early and Angleton Parks Director Stan Weik came up and introduced himself, he's been involved in the Angleton Community for many years, including time serving the thankless job of a City Council member, there was a lot of positive discussion in Tuesday's meeting about him working with local Seniors to start a program for them at the Recreation Center...
Although they didn't discuss it much, next month is going to be one of those meetings, with a public hearing and possible action on the new smoking ordinance, I guess that there wasn't much discussion because only the folks on Smoking Ordinance Committee knew what it consists of and they weren't saying, so to write something about it I will go ahead and post here what I wrote to the committee...
Hi!
I would first like to thank you for your dedication to this thankless task, as I say on the blog, it's beyond me why the council and city employees are not tearing their hair out as they deal with us residents who are so set in their ways and work to bring this city to it's destiny at the same time...
When covering Angleton City Council meetings (unfortunately going to miss this month's too because it's my 47th birthday, but I will be back) and speaking to individuals at City Hall for the blog, it's obvious that the City is working hard to attract new businesses, now I am not quite yet a successful Angleton businessman and my status is still only "A Legend In The Making," but I am busy learning to become one, and based on what I have learned so far, I would think that destroying long established businesses with a smoking ban, when there aren't and probably never will be many smoking establishments in the first place, would not be attractive to some (most would not care, of course) of the business folks considering setting up shop in our great city...
You should also consider how many of of Angleton's residents that go to the establishments which would be shut down by a smoking ban, as a matter of pride, would not go to any other restaurants here, and if the smoking ban is implemented and a restaurant just outside the City Limits where folks could smoke was not started immediately by someone I would really be surprised, with both of those resulting in a loss of revenue for Angleton...
As for myself personally, the only time I smoke in a restaurant is on Friday mornings and it wouldn't be a big deal, whether or not we moved to the new restaurant just outside the City Limits would be up to Micheal Boddy, of course...
Thanks Again! Mikey
So to move onto a more pleasant subject, Angleton is working with the railroads and the US Government to turn the areas near the train tracks in the city into "Quiet Zones," where the trains won't blast their horns every time they go through, Angleton's City Engineer Herb Smith was praised for the proposal he wrote on behalf of Angleton to get this going and Michael Stoltz said he was jealous that he didn't write it...
Oddly enough there weren't any comlaints about dogs when the citizens who wished to address the Council did so, but there was a complaint about the bathroom in Bates Park being locked most of the time and the Seniors that visit the park not being able to use them...
The County Fair begins here on October 13th, it's been around so long that it pretty well runs itself, but Public Works Director Robert Heinemeyer is making arrangements for extra trash pickup along the parade route...
The rest of it was mostly routine stuff, but next month will be a big one, I will make a point not to miss it and report on it here, because after all, this blog is, in fact, Angleton's Oldest Source for the City's News, hope everyone has a Wonderful Week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Saturday, August 26, 2006 Michael Stoldt is leaving Angleton, so...
Read in Micheal Boddy's Weekly Journal that Michael Stoldt is moving on (with some hair left on his head too!) from his City Manager's position here in Angleton to go to work for the city of Lampasas, TX (you can read the article here), so went back in the archives to re-post the article that was written about the locally infamous Mr Stoldt...
Friday, March 31, 2006 Meet Another Michael...
This Is Michael Stoldt
Note that he didn't pull out his hair after Tuesday's City Council Meeting
Michael worked his way through Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science by working as an Electrician, where his original intentions were to go for a Law Degree after that, upon graduation he wasn't so sure, so to give himself some time to take a look around and see what else was out there before he decided, he joined the Peace Corps... The skills Michael had that the Peace Corps could use were teaching and electronics, so he ended up going to the island of Haapai, one of the two medium population islands of the 96 inhabitable (out of 169) Tongan Islands in the South Pacific Ocean setting up a power grid on the island... Now on the Tongan Islands, different countries provide grants for improvements to the islands to help make it's citizen's lives better and Australia had provided a grant to provide Haapai with electricity, most of the equipment for this project had been bought and then left on the island to sit there... So Michael during his first six months in the Peace Corps learned what needed to be done to get electricity going on Haapai, the next six months took an inventory of what was on the island and obtain the rest of what was needed to finish the job, then went to work... His time with the Peace Corps ended before the project was complete, but I did confirm someone else finished it, and you can too by clicking the "Haapai" link above to see that power is, in fact, currently running there and is providing electricty to it's weather station... While working with the Tonga Electric Power Board on this project while he was there, Michael discovered what he wanted to do (and it wasn't to become a lawyer), so when he returned to the US he went back to school to earn a Master's Degree in Community and Regional Planning from University of Texas at Austin. Instead of working for a big city after he earned his Master's Degree, to have opportunities for advancement Michael started his new career working for the City of Copperas Cove, then the City of Marble Falls, to gain the experience necessary (part of his job in Copperas Cove even included supervising their homeless shelter) for the City of Angleton to feel that he was qualified to take on the task he currently has... Now whether Michael will have any hair left when he's done here, well, we will just have to wait and see... It's funny, every night that I plan to go to bed early, I don't realize it's too late to do so until it's way too late, oh well, take care, God Bless, and have a Terrific Weekend.....Mikey

Sunday, May 28, 2006 Photos of Flea Market Booth Progress w/ Angleton City Council Report
So the new readers don't get scared away by the Angleton City Council Report, I am preceding it with photos of the progress so far on the MikeyWear.Com "Marketing With A Microscopic Budget" Museum And Gift Shop at the Angleton Flea Market...
With everything going on, I have only been able to throw some some stuff up, as time goes on, most all of it will be re-done (like the frame around the TV) and/or moved...
The City Council Meeting was short this month, lasted less than an hour, so this is actually a short report, and to start it out...
Angleton City Council Members Jason Perez, Patrick Henry, and Roger Collins were sworn in to another term to the thankless jobs they have that no one else wants, proven by the fact that no one ran against any of them, so there wasn't an election, the Council then re-elected Patrick Henry to be Mayor Pro Tem...
They had a number of public hearings and the only person that spoke was a representative from the engineering firm that the Council voted to start the needed work, that was discussed in the February meeting (for an easy way to read more about it, click here, then scroll down a little till you see the "Blog Archive" box on your left, enter 3-2-2006 in it, and click "Go") on the wastewater treatment plant...
There will be a 2nd Angleton City Council Meeting in June, on June 13th, to handle some budget items, and please don't worry about 2 City Council Reports posted here in the same month again, because I seriously doubt that I will be at that one, but if I do, the report will be combined with the one later in the month...
Now for those of you that think junk mail doesn't work because that's what everyone has told you, although it's not based on the personal experience of anyone who has told you, well, Keep Angleton BeautifulCoordinator Jamie Bowman reported that after sending out 6 page fliers last Fall to every address in Angleton about the city's recycling program, there were over 10 tons more materials to recyle put out at Angleton curbs the very next month and in February (which is a very slow recycling month) there were over 30 tons more than the previous February...
As I said, it was a short meeting, so the report is short, and that's it...
For bearing with this months Angleton City Council Report, as a treat, here are more photos of the progress on the MikeyWear.Com "Marketing With A Microscopic Budget" Museum And Gift Shop at the Angleton Flea Market...
The New Manequin - Will make it's head this week...
Since there is no Episode for "THE BOX" this week... Here it is at it's new home away from zoo...
I hope everyone has a Wonderful Memorial Day (and please, please, please, don't forget what the holiday is for), take care and God Bless......Mikey
Friday, April 28, 2006 A DudeThat Will Make A Difference This Summer...
That Dude is Yankee Bob, owner of Spare Time Bowling and Recreation here in Angleton...
Bob at Spare Time today and speaking to the Angleton City Council Tuesday
At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Bob got behind the podium to thank the good folks of Angleton for the opportunity they have given him the last two years he has owned Spare Time and announced his plan for the city's youth this summer, "Say No To Drugs, Say Yes To Bowling!" Every student in Angleton will be able to play one free game of open bowling per day at Spare Time, rental shoes included, during the summer holidays!
His idea is to get kids off the street this summer and into Spare Time, I don't think anyone can deny that our country's youth got in a whole lot less trouble when they were hanging out at the bowling alley than where they hang out now and I believe it's a great idea!
Quick reminder, this week's Observer Breakfast is at the Flying S on Hwy 35 in Angleton, 9 to 11am CT, all that can make it are welcome to attend and maybe even (if they dare!) help Erwin with his demonstration for Sunday's Feature on this blog, take care, God Bless, and I hope everyone has a Fantastic Friday.....Mikey
Thursday, April 27, 2006 Keep Angleton Beautiful!
The day of the Great Texas Trash Off, while on the way to pick up litter on the side of the two miles of Highway 35, that MikeyWear is responsible for in TXDOT's Adopt-A-Highhway Program, I saw countless folks on the sides of Angleton's roads picking up litter, showing that KAB Coordinator Jamie Bowman's efforts to get Angleton's residents involved in the city's Keep Angleton Beautiful Project are well worth it...

20 groups picked up a whopping 370 bags of trash on April 1, 2006, when they added refrigerators, tires, etc... a total 36 tons of trash was hauled that day to the landfill...
On Tuesday the Angleton City Council recognized the top three groups who picked up the most trash off the sides of Angleton's roads that day...
 Cub Scout Pack 525 - 32 Bags!
First Missionary Baptist Church - 67 Bags!
Frontier Baptist Church - 102 Bags!
At Tuesday's City Council Meeting, Jamie also gave Keep Angleton Beautiful Awards for April's House and Business of the Month...
Natasha Stulberg - KAB House of the Month (left) Sandra from the Care Clinic - KAB Business of the Month (right)
I don't have a photo of Natasha and her husband Michael's home, but do have a couple of photos of Dr Ramirez's Care Clinic...

Tommorrow's post will be about an Angleton businessman who will be making a difference in the lives of Angleton's youth this summer with his great idea, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 Angleton Proud!
Where I was originally planning on going to the Angleton (Texas) City Council meeting only one time to cover Charlie giving them a piece of his mind (which he has yet to do), this has become a regular thing, and on top of that, Micheal Boddy is busy pasting his Angleton Observer together on Tuesday nights to get it to the printer on time, so I'm taking photos for him, if only I can figure out the new technology on my new camera...
There wasn't anything to make the Angleton City Council want to tear their hair out last night and there was a lot to feel good about in our city, enough to post about here for the next three days, will start today with some of the presentations they had...
Corporal Derrick White with his wife Karen Exchange Club Officer of the Year!
Angleton Librarian Lana Lewis (who I see busy being very helpful every time I get tired of the office and go to the Angleton Library to work) and Commissioner "Dude" Payne presented Angleton Police Department Corporal Derrick White with the Exchange Club Officer Year Award, if I wrote about all he has done for this community it would be close to midnight before this would be posted, he is a great asset to APD and the City of Angleton...
 The Angleton Wildcats' Basketball Team
The following proclamation was read by Mayor Sebesta...
WHEREAS, the Angleton Wildcats' Basketball team clawed their way to Austin to Compete in the State Championship. This was the first time ever to compete in the Regional and State playoffs;
WHEREAS, the Angleton Wildcats' had an awesome season with District Record of 12-2 and Season Record of 35-4 and;
WHEREAS, the team was led with character and determination by the Head Coach Tommy Penders along with the help of assistant coaches Jim McDaniel, Larry McGee, Demond Stafford, and Michael Jackson;
WHEREAS, the team included 17 very talented athletes ranging from 9th grade up to 12th grade. This team has made Angleton proud for showing talent, grit, and determination.
NOW, THEREFORE, I I.M. "Matt" Sebesta, through the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Angleton, do hereby proclaim, April 25, 2006 as a day in honor of the ANGLETON WILDCATS' BASKETBALL TEAM and I further urge all residents to express their support and enthusiastic appreciation of a job well done by our local athletes.

William Pickard and Family (left) Relay For Life Committee (right)
The Angleton Recreation Center has now been open for a year, William Pickard and his family have made the most use of it (501 times!) than any other citizens of Angleton, so they were recognized for it...
The Relay For Life Committee was recognized, forgot to get a copy of the proclamation so will give info I have on it...
The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life was April 28-29 at Wildcat Stadium in Angleton.
Relay for Life is an opportunity to celebrate those who are winning their battle against cancer, as well as honor those who lost their lives to it.
Relay for Life is an all night event meant to parallel the darkness of diagnosis and treatment, and then the hope that comes with a new sunrise. A sunset luminaria ceremony is the heart of the relay, in which each of the hundreds of candlelit bags represent a person who has been touched by cancer. Team members take turns walking around the track getting to know fellow community members.
Tommorrow I will be posting about Angleton's efforts to keep the city beautiful, and Friday's post will be about an Angleton Businessman who will make a difference in the lives of the youth of Angleton this summer, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Wednesday, March 29, 2006 It Was A Dark And Stormy Tuesday...
We finally got some rain here and a bunch of it, all the soil in this area was soaking it up too, the land was so dry that when I took the MikeyWearMobile in the middle of the storm to Lake Jackson to take Debbie lunch I didn't see any street flooding, but BarbedWire Bob told me that the Weather Chanel said it's going to rain every day this week except Thursday, so that may change, don't know how that is going to affect the Great Texas Trash Off, will go down the street to TXDOT tomorrow to see what they suggest we do if there is that much rain...
The rain cleared right before it was time to go to the Angleton City Council meeting, Charlie was there and I was ready to take notes of him giving them a piece of his mind and photos after getting it OKed with Charlie and Angleton's Public Works Director (because I had his email address) Robert Heinemeyer...
I decided to go ahead and read to the Council the statement I had prepared...
To market my new line of quality infant and toddler clothing, I am mixing old and new marketing techniques in a unique way to combine real world Angleton and the Brazosport Area with virtual world America, writing about and posting photos of this city, what it is doing, and some of it's characters, on MikeyWear.Com and it's blog...
Since most cities would not put up with what I am doing because it's so odd, I would like to thank the city of Angleton and it's residents for allowing me the opportunity to pursue the American dream in this city...
I would like to thank the Angleton Police Department, for keeping a close eye on my Flea Market booth to keep it from being vandalized...
And I would like to assure everyone I will continue to give credit to Angleton for this opportunity and tell others around the county, that although Angleton does have it's problems, some of which Charlie will address shortly, as I state in MikeyWear.Com's Frequently Asked Questions, "If you are looking for a city with opportunities galore, check out what the City of Angleton, AISD, the Angleton Chamber of Commerce, as well as the businesses and Citizens in Angleton are doing to make things happen and you will find that you need to look no further."
Now as I've written before, I am terrible at speaking to a bunch of people, I stumbled over it a lot, but even with all the stuttering I think everybody understood what I said and the Council appreciated it, spoke to Angleton's City Manager Micheal Stoldt during the break about a possible mini series here on Angleton's preparation of it's infrastructure for the upcoming population boom and he was enthusiastic about us getting together to get it started...
There was one big problem, when I gave the lead in for Charlie I could see Mayor Sebesta looking over at Michael and Michael tearing through all of his papers, then after I was done they said there was one more and it wasn't Charlie, but a man complaining about Pit Bulls on his street (and immediately after he spoke, Angleton's Police Chief spoke with him in the hallway to address the problem), it ended up that Charlie had filled out the form and left it on the table instead of giving it to Michael, when I mentioned this to Michael, he said if someone had spoken up that Charlie would have been more than welcome to speak...
At the Coucil meetings I'm looking at the Mayor and Council members, thinking "better them than me," it's beyond me why anyone would willingly work so hard to be elected to the thankless jobs they have, having to pull double duty, keeping the city going and preparing it for when Angleton becomes a part of the Houston Metropolitan Area so the transition will be as smooth as possible...
Now while accomplishing their goals to make this transition as smooth as possible within the budget they have, some of the needs of the citizens already living here have at times been neglected, the difference here is that the city has it's doors open to any citizen that wants to voice a grief or concern, they listen to them too and will do their best to correct the problems that it's citizens bring to their attention, for example: when the street that our zoo is on was torn up to put in new sewer lines and they forgot to repave the street, after a bunch of us went to City Hall to give them a piece of our minds, the street had fresh pavement laid, so when Charlie does give them a piece of his mind, I'm sure that they will do their best to address what Charlie speaks about...
I don't see how the Angleton City Council does it without pulling all their hair out...
Case in point, Angleton very, very, very, etc... desperately needs more child care facilities and a piece of property was bought to build one of these facilities on, the problem is, it's in one of Angleton's oldest residential neighborhoods, so it's obviously not zoned correctly to have a daycare center on it and the owner was, by following the set guidelines, asking the City of Angleton to re-zone that property and make it a Commecial Property, she also made some very valid points to back up her request...
So they had a public hearing on the request, with the sides unevenly divided, more folks were wanting the property to be re-zoned into a commercial property, but both sides were heated in the discusion, at one point it seemed there was a clapping contest going on, I politely clapped for all that spoke, because all of them had valid points, and would get some dirty looks when I clapped for the property's neighbors, but understood why, because Angleton very, very, very, etc... desperately needs more child care facilities...
The Council unanimously voted to turn down the re-zoning request and each one of them politely gave an explaination why they voted that way, because although Angleton very, very, very, etc... desperately needs more child care facilities, it would set a bad precedent for future re-zoning requests, and you could tell that each had given a lot of thought to what they said...
In spite of the tension after the Council made their descision, the owner of the property accepted the decision with no ill will and said that she was not giving up and would find another property she could afford in Angleton to build a daycare center on, and guess what? As soon as the break began right after that, the Mayor and a few of the Council members went up to her immediately to pledge their support to help her achieve her goal...
And none of them appeared to be wearing a hairpiece, so...
Getting too tired to type any more, so take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Friday, March 03, 2006 Working Towards a Really Big Goal!
Where Mass Transportation is much needed in Brazoria County, it's not a reality because, up till now, no one has taken it upon themselves to make the commitment needed to get it started, but as I wrote in yesterday's post, Kathy Goodwin of whogotnext.org, which already has a basketball program going for youth, has set a goal of having mass transit started in this county as early as August 1, 2006!
West Columbia and Sweeny have signed up for service, at Tuesday's Angleton City Council Meeting she asked them to sign on, but with the limited budget they have (due to what was mentioned in yesterday's post and a bunch of other projects), they decided to wait until their next meeting to see what the Lake Jackson City Council (meeting Monday, March 6th), the Pearland City Council (meeting Monday, March 13th), and the Jones Creek City Council (meeting Tuesday, March 21st, for transit services next year) have to say before they make a decision...
At whogotnext.org , there is a contest (with a prize!) for Brazoria County residents to name the service, and she encourages all Brazoria County Residents that would like Mass Transit started in this county to fill out a survey at the site, so the results can be forwarded to city officials to show them the folks want want mass transit, she has also asked folks to personally tell their city officials how they feel about it...
Word has it that Caleb (the older Grandkid) will be at the Observer Breakfast this morning, and we hope to have both him and Seth (younger Grandkid) somewhere along the parade route for the Charlie Company Homecoming Celebration on Saturday, take care, God Bless and have a Terrific Friday and Weekend.....Mikey
Thursday, March 02, 2006 Interesting City Council Meeting...
Where my original intentions were to just write about Charlie giving the Angleton City Council a piece of his mind, well, he didn't show up, but after all was said and done I wish that I didn't have an appointment scheduled two hours into the meeting and could have stayed...
I arrived 30 minutes early and had the opportunity to speak to Mayor Sebesta and Public Works Director Robert Heinemeyer, real pleasant folks in the informal conversations we had, Mayor Sebesta is running for County Commissioner (better him than me!) and, if elected, should do a good job, would like to thank Robert for helping me fill in the details I missed for this post...
Erwin and Jeanie came to give Charlie moral support and because he wasn't there left during the 1st break after giving some input, Erwin suggested a food to add to Cash's (the Angleton Police Department's dog) diet to local veterinarian Sherry Dotson, who received an award for helping Cash with a health problem, and asked Kathy Treadgill (from the Brazoria County Libraries) about the pay phone that had been removed from the Angleton Library (while she asked for feedback about how they could make it better) and Jeanie asked if they could get the local school's textbooks in the library...
Something that really impresses me with the City of Angleton is their preparation for the for the upcoming population explosion (that depending on who you talk to, will begin in the next 3 to 5 years, since the Houston Metropolitan Area has nowhere else to expand to) and part of that is preparing to combat the crime that will try to come with it, Officer Chris Dahlstrom was presented his new Lieutenants badge and two new patrol officers and a new communications officer were welcomed into the Angleton Police Department...
Cindy Davis spoke about Manna Fields Farm, a family-owned agri-entertainment and educational resource farm just outside of Angleton, I have spoken to her since and hope to start a Feature on it here in 2 to 3 weeks, as well as a feature in the fall about The Maize, a maze going through a cornfield that will open at the end of September and run through November...
Kathy Goodwin of whogotnext.org, which already has a basketball program going for youth, spoke about their next project, getting Mass Transit started and running in Brazoria County, I really need a whole post to write about the project, so that's what tomorrow's post here will be about...
And back to the preparations for Angleton's future, besides discussion of needed repairs to the Waste Water Treatment Plant (avoiding an emergency and having to run around like chickens with their heads cut off to keep it within the state's specifications), although there is currently only a flow of 1.2 million gallons of sludge, they had a lengthy discussion about how to increase it's current maximum capacity of 3 million gallons before the population explosion hits, I hope to speak to Michael Stoldt (Angleton's City Manager) about other infrastructure improvements the City of Angleton is making to prepare and write about them here when I can...
The Council also named the portion of Business 288, where Benchmark Electronics and whoever is going to take over the old Intermedics complex is, "Technology Drive," and agreed to do a survey of Old Angleton Road to see if it would be safe to increase the portion of it that is 30mph to 40mph, as well as a bunch of other stuff...
The Observer Breakfast (yep, Micheal Boddy will be there, so it will be an Observer Breakfast) tomorrow will be at the Flying S on Highway 35 at the usual time (9-11am CT), all are welcome to attend and maybe even (if you dare!) help Erwin with his demonstration for this Sunday's Franke's Fun Food Facts, I would also like to give Micheal bunches and bunches of Kudos for making his dream, the Charlie Company Homecoming Celebration this Saturday, a reality, you should be able to download the Special Commemorative Supplement about it in .pdf format at the Angleton Observer Website by then, it's going to be one heck of a celebration and anyone that can make it really should go, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
