So You Want To Sell Retail Clothing???

I hope you realize that to break into the retail clothing market...

Late to bed...

Early to rise...

Work, work, work...

And Advertise!

...is not sufficient!

To break into retail clothing, there's more!

Schedule weekly appointments with a therapist in advance...

Much later to bed...

Much earlier to rise...

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, etc...

Doubt your sanity...

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, etc...

Think sadistic thoughts about what you would like to do to the next idiot who, without bothering to hear it in the 1st place, tells you that your 30 second elevator speech is all wrong and then spends the next 10 minutes telling you how you should be doing it...

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, etc...

Doubt your sanity some more...

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, etc...

Set yourself free by accepting the fact that you are not sane, because no sane person would try to break into the retail clothing market, and if you doubt me, watch about 10 minutes of any Project Runway show...

Work, work, work, work, work, work, work, work, etc...

And Advertise!

Hope everyone has a Happy Happy Super Terrific New Year, take care and God Bless..…Mikey

Coming up with your own ideas for businesses and investments...

Have noticed that a lot of new readers are starting their own businesses or thinkiing about it and thought this might be helpful, so they don't have to go back into the archives till they have the time I'm re-posting this for them...

From Friday, January 06, 2006
Subject: An example...

I've been encouraging those that hate their job or are unemployed to be their own boss, telling them to look and listen to find what others in their community want to buy and is not easily available, then start a business selling it...

While getting MikeyWear.Com going I see new opportunities for businesses almost daily, but have refrained from listing any of them, because those that find them on their own will have more of a passion for what they are doing and will be more of a success...

I've decided, though, to give an example, and it's also something that will get a person out there to see what else they can sell and get them the startup money to sell it at the same time...

Most anywhere you go, there are boats that the owners are trying get out from in front of their homes, to the point that they will give it to anyone that will take it away, take the boat away for them and take it straight to a salvage yard and get whatever the salvage yard will pay for the boat, but keep the trailer...

Then build a jerky stand on the trailer and build a deck on the rest of the trailer to lounge on when there are no customers and draw attention...

Now you can buy pre-packaged jerky online and you usually have to buy it in big quantities which costs a lot, but you can also go to just about any meat shop and make arrangements with the owner to buy their jerky pre-packaged in smaller quantities, another advantage to that is you can get it unlabeled and then label it yourself with the name of your business...

Although selling on a roadside is not the safest thing in the world, you can do that, but a much safer alternative would be to rent space (and it usually doesn't cost much) at the different outdoor weekend events (festivals, drag races, etc...) in your area...

Then, when someone walks up to your jerky booth, give them a little bitty teensy weensy taste of the jerky you sell (to get their taste buds going, of course!) and roughly 8-9 out of 10 will buy some jerky from you...

Keep in mind that is just the basics, you will need to figure out the rest (like building the stand and deck securely on the trailer, how much to sell it for, abiding by your local laws, etc...) on your own...

Hope this can help someone, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Subject: How I came up with example...

In the previous blog, I gave an example of what someone could do to start their own business with not much money and be making money in a short time...

Here is how I came up with it...

While starting MikeyWear.Com, I became friends with a dude that had a trailer with a jerky stand on it, selling pre-packaged jerky that he bought in bulk from the web, and saw that 8-9 out of 10 of all the folks he gave an itsy bitsy teenie weenie piece of jerky bought some of his jerky...

The idea for using a boat trailer came from the boat in front of my next door neighbor's house that took months for him to be able to give away...

Selling the boat to a salvage yard came from driving by one...

The idea to set up the stand at weekend events came from going to a local festival and seeing hot food stands that had rented space...

The idea of buying the jerky from a local meat market came while getting a roast at one, seeing that they sold their own pre-packaged jerky, and asking a few questions...

Now, with this in mind, before anyone sets up a jerky stand to sell jerky, please 1st take a look around your community to see what the folks there want, then look, ask questions, and listen, to figure out a way to sell it, I'm sure that you can come up with a much better idea, and it will be your idea, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

From: Sunday, January 08, 2006
Subject: Another example...

This one would take more money to start than a jerky stand, but then I'm just describing the thought process to come up with an idea for a business in your community, so anyway...

How many times have you gone by one of those stands selling snow cones (AKA: Shaved Ice) and although you wanted to get one, you didn't feel like pulling over, getting out of your vehicle, etc...

Then after you get home the ice cream truck comes by your home, do you want to buy an ice cream bar?

But if that truck going by your home with the very annoying tune sold snow cones, would you buy one?

Would the kids that you see on your street buying ice cream from the ice cream truck be more excited about getting money from their parents to buy a snow cone?

If you had a truck going through your neighborhood selling snow cones? Would they sell?

And if you sold ice cream, you would have to pay the company that makes the ice cream bars to make them and would need to pay for freezer capacity to store the ice cream bars until you can sell them, but if you sold snow cones in that truck, since you would be making the snow cones yourself from scratch and could get the ice you needed to make them daily, your profits would be higher...

But I will point out once again, if you take a look around your community and give some thought to how you can start your own business there, I'm sure that you can come up with a better idea than this, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Topic: Speaking of Malls...

If you do the necessary research, there are many places to find ways to start investing for a future with only the few bucks in your pocket/purse/wallet each time you invest, and I believe that you will care more for the investment, will be less likely to liquidate your investment at a loss, and will probably try to have more in your pocket each time you invest...

And where there are a number of collectables and coin shops (yep, what I am referring to, but please dont limit yourself to just these and look further) in malls, they are not limited to just malls, dont spend much time, though, in the shops selling stuff that you have an interest in, but the shops or the parts of the shops you dont have an interest in, so you wont get caught up in what everyone else is buying and be able to take an objective look at how you can make a more serious investment...

Here is my experience with this...

Right after I stopped using drugs, I still had a craving for them, would have money in my pocket because I wasnt buying them, and didnt know what to do...

Meanwhile, my boss at the time was an avid collector of baseball cards and spent a lot of time telling me about them, the only interest I had ever had in baseball was in the later part of the 70s when some friends and I would get drunk in left field at Texas Ranger games and cheer for Al Oliver (didnt really pay attention to the Ranger games, but thought it was a lot of fun at the time, being with everyone else that was getting drunk in left field and cheering for "Big O"), but he was my boss, so I listened to him tell me about baseball cards...

Then one day he came to work with a few unopened baseball card wax packs that were a couple of years old, to open and see if there were any valuable cards, and before he opened the 1st one, he held it up and said "you know, unopened wax packs appreciate in value more than the cards themselves."

It was sometime in early 1990, but from what I already knew, even though the baseball card wax packs being sold at face value were for the 1990 season, the rookie cards would be of the rookies in the 1989 season, my boss had told me that there were a number of 1989 season rookies with Hall of Fame potential, and you had a choice of brands you could buy in any convenience store, so knowing that if I tried to liquidate anytime in the next decade, by the time baseball was a couple of months into the 1990 season I had invested in 100s of unopened baseball card wax packs...

Now where factors like what folks will think about Sammy Sosa's corked bat when he gets into the Hall of Fame will determine whether I make any money from the 100s of unopened 1990 season baseball card wax packs, it did serve the most important purpose of buying them, but if you take the time to go to all the different collectables and coin shops near where you live, focusing on the stores or parts of stores that you have no interest in, take the time to look around, get the shop owners, as well as the customers in the shops, to start talking and then listen to what they say, followed by your own research to see how safe the possible investments would be, Im sure you will find something much better that you can invest in, and it will be something you discovered...

And just think, if you find an idea for a business and an investment that are directly related, then follow through on both... WOW! YOU ARE AN EXPERT ON IT!

Hope everyone has a Wonderful Week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Bunches of Updates...

Yeah, I haven't been on MySpace much, it's just been real frustrating to use with a dialup and I haven't felt like staying up all night to have time on it when the servers aren't overloaded, but I will be posting on the blog regardless this weekend, now that the Borat movie has hit the theaters and they won't be having the ads for it that slow the main pages to a crawl, things should be better...

So I've spent a lot of my net time on the Ryze.Com business networking site, have gotten record results from it and haven't begun to start figuring out how to best utilize it, although folks say it's not what it was, I'm overwhelmed with all the opportunities and don't know where to start...

Have gotten a great response from the banner rotation at the Brazosport Facts newspaper's web site, but didn't know where to go from there, but on Ryze have learned a whole lot about how to best utilize banner ads, also have banner ads going on sites that I found out about on Ryze, started with the banner rotation on Christian Work At Home Dads and got such a great response that iamnotagenious.com is now part of the banner rotation at Christian Work At Home Moms  and was able to get such a good deal at the Work At Home Promotion web site that iamnotagenious.com is not only on the banner rotation, but there are two ad buttons up there too, one with the "Sissy Merry Christmas" design (which 10% of the commissions will go to BACH) and the other has the "Poco Feliz Navidad" design (which 10% of the commissions will go to NACER.ORG), all of these work at home sites are great resources, for not only home businesses, but any small business...

Also, starting this Friday, iamnotagenious.com will have a half banner in the rotation on the top right corner of the San Marcos Daily Record newspaper's web site, where I got a great response last month with print ads at the Record and "Precision Crafted" junk mail to selected businesses, I have plans for other newspaper's web sites when the funds are available...

Meanwhile, after the current print ads run out at THE FACTS, I'm going to have to put print ads on hold till the sales of the remaining MikeyWear start coming in, which probably won't be until the holiday shopping season is in full swing, unless eBay'ers decide they are a collectible item (which, due to the limited quantity, I believe they eventually will) before that...

I am using the iamnotagenious.com project to help folks find out that BACH is not just BACH-ECI (NB-3 years old) and offers therapy and support to children up to 12 years old who have developmental delays or disabilities and their families, not sure about the details, but will get them from KC and post about them on the blog, meanwhile I remembered today to put new fliers with BACH as the new Non-Profit Organization of the Month on the back windows of the MikeyWearMobile and will be preparing some of my "Precision Crafted" junk mail this weekend to send out to selected businesses in Brazoria County...

Speaking of the MikeyWearMobile, the debate over whether it or the "lawnmower car" is the biggest eyesore in Brazoria County is continuing to bring interest to MikeyWear and iamnotagenious.com...

And here's a little trivia for you to impress your friends with, after Tuesday's elections, the stock market was real interesting yesterday, Apparel Stores were up .7%, while Apparel Clothing was down .56%, Footwear & Accessories were up .7%, Toys & Games were up 2.65% and Music & Video Stores were up 2.78%,  so it looks like Wall Street investors didn't think all the the changes that will be happening in Washington are going hurt holiday sales...

Also in yesterday's financial news, McDonald's October sales were up over 5% with the Monopoly game and new menu items, so I will be taking the MikeyWearMobile to McDonalds more often to get snacks when I am out and about, hope everyone has a Super Terrific Thursday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Promoting a book on MySpace...

Was asked last night for advise on how to promote a self-published book and figured my response would be good for a post here...

As you know, I have no experience with this, so can only say what I would do, which may or may not work, which would be...

For promoting anything on MySpace, the 1st thing I would do is get a copy of "The Wisdom Of Ginsu" by the Ginsu Guys, yeah the dudes who sold the knives in those dumb commercials, I personally have two copies in case I misplace one, would mention where my review of it is in my blog's archives, but would have to find it and already want to be in bed, so if anyone wants to read it they will have to wade through the archives to find it...

If I had time for a 2nd MySpace profile, I would definitely have one with a photo of the book's cover as the profile photo, with my 1st friend in both top 8s being the other profile and stating that in the "About Me" of both, with both of the profiles promoting the book, if I had more than one book and had the time would do a profile for each and link them all together the same way I just mentioned with the other's in the 2, 3, 4, etc... slots of each top 8...

Would invite all the authors I could to become friends, except those that write fantasy porn, of course, putting the personal profiles of authors who are busting their butts to promote their book on MySpace in the other top 8 slots...

Would also invite folks who would be interested in that type of book, MySpace's "search" feature can help with that...

Send a comment with a friendly greeting to each MySpace friend as often as I could, 1st going through my friend list with one profile, then start the next series of coments from the other profile, and not worry if any friends are not a friend of both...

A group may help, but have no experience with them as a marketing tool, so wouldn't even try to guess...

When I'm looking at reviews to decide if I want to buy a book, I pay attention to those who buy the type of book I'm wanting to buy and don't really pay attention to the others, so I would concentrate on getting reviews from folks who buy that type of book...

Use my imagination to come up with ways to promote the book on MySpace that others are not, then base the responses to figure out what to do with it from there, "The Wisdom of Ginsu" will definitely help you with that...

Hope that helps and that you have a Wonderful Wednesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Should start working on that online store this evening, when it's up I will announce it 1st right here, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Are you an aspiring author or thinking about becoming one?

Back on May 25th I had written about musicians selling their music themselves:

And I see so many extremely talented musicians busting their behinds to get the attention of the record labels, so they can sell their souls to them and be packaged by folks in the company with no imagination whatsoever and have no control over their music, and actually their lives too, while under the contract, that it makes me want to cry, when, not including all the other online resources they have available to them, with MySpace alone they can use the opportunity it gives them to be able to affordably produce and sell their CDs, as well as be able to take look at the MySpace friends in their profiles and communicate with them to schedule very profitable sold out tours, then if they want to talk to a major record label, since they are already making good money they will have the leverage to set the terms and be able to control their music and their lives, and for those that did this, if the record labels wouldn't be able to give many of them a better deal than the ones they have already made for themselves I would be very surprised...

Since then I've become friends here on MySpace with a number of aspiring authors, they are submitting the books they have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into to the major publishers and if a publisher doesn't send a rejection letter and is interested, they almost always want the author's work to be heavily edited, then the author is in a dilemma about whether they should let the integrity of their book be diminished to get it published or continue to send it to other publishers...

Well, not only MySpace, but the entire internet now provides authors an opportunity to publish a book and market it themselves, I've been told about a few of the companies they can use to publish their books (note: I have no experience with any of these, if you use one of these services you will first need to do your homework, going over what they offer with a fine tooth comb yourself, before you make any agreement with them), eBookDeal.net, lulu.com, and authorhouse.com, if there are any other companies doing this that any of you know about, please put the info about them in a reply to this post, and for those of you who want to reply about who you use to plug your book, all I ask is that you keep the size of your reply to a minimum, thanks in advance...

Now regarding the marketing of your book, I would think that a real world marketing campaign to go along with your online marketing would be even more important than most online ventures, the best way I can think of off the top of my head to market your book with a small budget would be to do it with libraries, like if your book is a children's book, find a way to convince them to have you read your book during one of their children's hours, now to get them to notice you, you can try Jeff Crilley's book, Free Publicity, where he writes about coming up with ways to get the media's attention, I believe it would help you get the attention of libraries too, and if you get his book I really believe you should get his CD to go with it too, hearing Jeff tell his "Elvis Chicken" story to me was worth the price of both...

As I state here regularly about any business venture, if you come up with the ideas and do the work yourself, you will have a passion for what you are doing and that will be a big factor in your success, if after you have already created a market for your book and then want to take a look at what major publishers have to offer, you will have more leverage at the bargaining table with them, like when they want to do something like heavily edit your book and you don't, and don't be surprised if they can't give you a better deal than the one you have already made for yourself...

Heck, after writing this I'm now thinking about looking into publishing what I write here into a book, not sure, though, if I can handle adding another project to what I have going already, so going to file it away under "More Will Be Revealed" for at least a day or two, hopefully longer...

OK Mikey, take a deep breath, relax...

Hope everyone has a really wonderful week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

If You Have A Great Product, Sell It!

To help the new readers understand why the Blog Bunch Merchandise project is called iamnotagenious.com and why we are all sticking our tongues out, here's a re-post from May 25, 2006 when this idea began...

For an easy way to get to the older posts I refer to, click here, then scroll down a little till you see the "Blog Archive" box on your left, enter the date of the older post in it, and click "Go"

Although he should have known better, in his reply to May 22nd's post, Kent Hutchison of the CJ Baxter Group (the #1 Guru Behind MikeyWear's success) mistakenly referred to me as a "genious" and I am going to address this now, before it gets out of hand...

As I wrote in May 14th's post, after discovering three voids in the infant and toddler clothing market, with no marketing experience I decided to pursue the American Dream by having them made and selling MikeyWear, and have used the time it's taken to get he word out to learn as much as I can, about not only infant and toddler clothing, but business and making an honest living in general, then taken what I have learned and given serious thought to it all, you could say that what the drugs I had done (note: been off them for a little over 16 years) to my brain have given me an advantage, because I have no other choice than to do this to be successful with MikeyWear, and this in no way whatsoever makes me a "genious."

While doing this I've found that a lot of the stuff I've been told that I must do or does not work is not based on the experience of the person telling me, but I don't automatically discard what I've been told and take a closer look at it to find variations of it that will work, for example...

I've been told uncountable times that I won't be able to sell my products online, unless I am able to get keywords like "infant clothing" and "toddler clothing" to rank MikeyWear.Com high in search engines, by folks that did not have experience at significantly increasing the sales of their products with high search engine rankings, so as was written in January 13th's post, I went to Houston to hear one of the experts at a clinic he speaks at monthly and I have to try to be humble (and it's hard!) when I agree that he is, in fact, an expert, because he spoke about how you should not depend on search engine placement and he explained ways to not have to depend on it, which I was already doing a lot of, and after still giving a lot of thought to what he said, remembered that he spoke about how search engines base their placement on how they think it will make them the most profit, so once I start selling MikeyWear, they will obviously move MikeyWear.Com's placement on up there, which will improve sales...

Every time a major retailer has one of those Entrepreneur Fairs (or whatever they decide to call them) I get emails from friends and family about them, one would think that going to them would be a good idea, but not only would the retailers make more money off all my work than myself, but unless I already had sales going I wouldn't have much to bargain with when we agree on the terms of the contract, including my being able to control the quality of MikeyWear, and if one of the executives gets mad at me after the contract is signed, all of my efforts will have been wasted and I will have to get a real job, however, if I decide to speak to them after the sales have kicked off, I will have better leverage to set my own terms...

I've been told over and over and over, etc... that junk mail doesn't work and, well, you are going to have to wait for this month's Angleton City Council report to find out about that...

I have given what I have been told about 30 second elevator speeches a whole lot of thought and have yet to be able to figure out how to actually turn one into sales...

And regarding discussions in business meetings about how everyone should be thinking outside of the box, well, I've already covered that very extensively on this blog...

Now with that in mind, there are two groups of friends here on MySpace that I see most of them trying to sell their products in a way that makes me want to tear my hair out...

There are MLMers out there who have a product that will sell itself, trying to sell the product by establishing a downline, instead of using the product to make sales, which would result in the downline coming to them...

So anyway, that's something for folks to give some thought to, hope everyone has a really great Thursday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Then Kent wrote: "But you are a genious!"

And I replied: Kent, if I can be serious for just a moment...

Question about network marketing...

If someone does the necessary research and works hard using what they have learned from that and continued research, a person can make a lot in network marketing and/or MLMs, I can say that because I've seen many folks do just that, but if someone thinks they can make wheelbarrows full of money without the research and hard work, well, all I have to say to them is "Good Luck!"

There's a lot of folks who send emails and MySpace messages asking me to take a look at the network marketing organization they are in, as the readers here should know, that's not what I'm about, if someone graded me on a small business report card they would add a notation on it saying "does not work well with network marketers." but I do take some of the little free time I have to look at (note: if it's a video they want me to look at, I still have a dialup connection and watching it has to be done at he library) as many of them as possible to learn more about network marketing, as well as send any info on opportunities that look good to friends that would work well with network marketers for them to take a look at...

So to finally get to the subject, a lot of recent emails and MySpace messages from network marketers have had a number of different quotes from Bill Gates, with all of them basically saying that if he lost everything he would make his millions back in network marketing, Mr. Gates doesn't seem to me to be the type of person who, if he became broke, would depend on a bunch of folks not working for him to make his millions back, so I've taken some time to try to find a credible reference that says whether he did, in fact, say something like that or not, unfortunately it's so new that it's not mentioned it in snopes yet, so I have taken a look at other places on the net that might be able to confirm or deny this and still haven't found anything...

So the question for the readers here is: Can any of you find out if Bill Gates really did say something about making his millions back, if he became broke, in network marketing?

Not being able to find anything about this is starting to bug me, so I appreciate your help, hope everyone is having a Wonderful Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

(Note: It was determined that Donald Trump, many years ago on the Tonight Show, when Johnny Carson was still hosting, as a joke had said he would sell Amway to make his millions back if he lost it all...)

Do people use MySpace for selling or promoting their other websites, sales, or business?

Was asked this and thought the answer would be a good post, so...

MySpace is anything you want it to be*, musicians and comedians are getting folks to buy their products and go to their shows, they are saying in the Real Estate Market that Realtors must have a MySpace account, and I personally am buying more and more products that I have found out about on MySpace, because I have been happy with all of the CDs and other merchandise I've bought so far...

Many (couldn't begin to count) are using their MySpace blogs as a marketing tool, some are even having success promoting their businesses by re-posting articles in print and online publications, I hope with permission...

I use this blog as an entertainment marketing tool to attract folks to MikeyWear.Com, with, as subscribers already know, silly, but informative, posts like "Franke's Fun Food Facts, just plain silly Things to do with THE BOX other than think outside of it," and my Grandmother Vera's Recipes, as well as posts about how folks can use their brains to find ways on their own to make their lives better (believing if they find it on their own they will care about it more and that will make them successful), like ways to come up with ideas for a business, and there's a bunch of other stuff I throw in, Angleton's Mayor Sebesta even recognized me as a member of the Angleton media a few months ago when I was covering a City Council meeting for this blog, so with the demise of the Angleton Observer newspaper, I've been having some fun locally with this blog being "Angleton's Oldest Source For The City's News"...

The "Blog Bunch" merchandise site (iamnotagenious.com) is an unplanned side project created by the demand of this blog's readers, where originally it was to help out those who have been helping with my blog (explained in the "How This Works" link at iamnotagenious.com), the immediate interest in it I've found to be amazing and it looks like my referral commissions (also explained in the "How This Works" link at iamnotagenious.com) just might surpass any profits from MikeyWear.Com, but going to have to wait and see on that, of course...

There are also a lot of folks using MySpace to promote or start their ministries, because I have used MikeyWear.Com as a means to help folks know (going to pass on the term raising awareness) about non-profit organizations that I believe in, as well as writing about "Being Your Own Success," some have called what I am doing a ministry, but I will not call it that, besides the profit motive, I am not and have no plans to attract followers, what I write about has nothing to do with following, it's about not having to follow or depend on others...
