Vera’s Holiday Brown Candy!
I want to remind everyone that "Chickasha Oklahoma Legend" Grandmother Vera's Recipes that are posted here can all be viewed on one page in the blog's archives at:
Here's a new recipe from out of the bag that "Chickasha Oklahoma Legend" Grandmother Vera gave Dad before she passed away...
Holiday Brown Candy
6 cups white sugar - 2 cups cream 1/4 tsp baking powder - 1/2 cup oleo 1 tsp vanilla - 4 cups broken pecans
*Warning* This recipe makes 3 pounds of candy!
Pour 2 cups ofthe sugar into a heavy aluminum or iron skillet and place over low heat. Stir with a woden spoon and keep the sugar moving so that it will not scorch for 15 minutes, until it's about the color of light brown sugar syrup.
As soon as you have the sugar heating, pour the remaing 4 cups of sugar together with the 2 cups of cream into a deep, heavy kettle and set it over low heat to cook slowly while you are melting the sugar in the skillet.
As soon as the sugar is melted, begin very slowly pouring it into the kettle of boiling milk and sugar, keeping it over very low heat and stirring across the bottom of the pan constantly.
Continue cooking and stirring until the mixture forms a firm ball when dropped into cold water.
After this test is made, turn off the burner and immediately add the baking soda while stirring hard as it foams up. As soon as the baking soda is mixed, add the oleo, allowing it to melt as you stir.
Set the pan of candy off the stove and let cool about 20 minutes, until it is lukewarm. Add the vanilla and beat until the mixure is thickened and heavy and takes on a dull appearance instead of a glossy sheen. Add the pecans and mix.
Turn into two 13X9X2-inch pans where it can be cut into 1 inch squares when cooled.
I hope everyone has a really Super Fantastic Thanksgiving, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Christmas Trees For Our Troops!
I got this letter from Operation AC, an organization that I think is really, really neat...
Dear Supporter,
Well, it's that time of year again - the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays are coming and there are so many of our US Service members going to spend their holidays in Iraq or Afganistan. Many of these troops are away from their families for the third or fourth time having spent previous deployments in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
Thankgiving begins a sad time for the troops and as Christmas nears, it becomes sort of solemn and nobody really talks about it. Kim describes the dinner as the command making the best efforts to creating all of the foods from home, but it just isn't the same as spending it around the dinner table at your house with your own family. She said everyone was just quiet that day talking about what they were missing from home-cooked meals with grandma or mom. I had gone to the store and bought Chris and Kim's unit some artificial trees with lights and sent them to their unit. Kim said when the Christmas trees arived in the mail, many of the troops were spending their 1st Christmas away from home and many others were able to get a bit of a mental vacation by working together to make decorations for their tree. Many of the platoon had contests for the best decorated tree in the unit. This is what 1 small artificial tree with lights can do. Something about the little tree with lights on it made grown-ups turn into kids again, just for a little while. Kim said the little trees with lights made a lot of difference in cheering everyone up.
We can buy a tree and ship it to one soldier for $35. I have 300 here now and we are getting another 500 in next week. The more money I can raise, the more trees I can send. So this is it, simply put in a simple in-expensive way. I'm sure you get asked all the time for money for the troops, but I can tell you that what you send me, goes 100% to buying these Christmas trees for our troops. Operation AC has sent exactly 6,582 of these trees since I sent them to Chris and Kim Christmas of Operation Iraqui Freedom 1. This was all done because of people like you. We are a team and can not make these accomplishments without each other.
Nothing is impossible because through God all things are possible. I pray that my fellow Americans answer this call and help Operation AC help our troops.
Thank you for your support.
I hope that everyone is having a really Super Terrific Thursday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Bulls vs. Bears - Week 5
Disclaimer: I would say "please don't do this at home," but since that would be hypocritical because, well, I did this at home, please be careful if you try something like this, but seriously, this is for entertainment purposes only and if you use this info to make a investment and/or trading descision and lose money, well, it's your own damn fault...
So anyway, while attending Online Trading Academy I learned about some Bull and Bear indicators for individual stocks and wondered if they would mean anything if I added them together, and that's what I'm going to try to see in this new weekend feature...
For references, the NYSE will use the NYSE Composite Index (New Method: ^NYA), the NASDAQ will use the NASDAQ Composite (^IXIC), and the total of both will use the S&P 500 Index (^GSPC)
Or something like that...
We'll start this week by showing last week's indicators along with what happened this week... NYSE Composite Index (New Method: ^NYA) 10/26/2007: Close - 10,189.13 57 Bulls/20 Bears 11/02/2007: Close - 10,052.28
NASDAQ Composite (^IXIC) 10/26/2007: Close - 2,804.19 83 Bulls/34 Bears 11/02/2007: Close - 2,810.28

So did those indicators actually mean anything? Well, we got mixed results this week, and for grins I'm going to keep this going for 10 weeks...
And now it's time for this week's indicators...
NYSE Composite Index (New Method: ^NYA) 11/02/2007: Close - 10,052.28 103 Bulls/20 Bears

Another year goes by...
It was 18 years ago today that I stopped using drugs, so wanted to repost this today...
Have 11 of the Bingo Cage Kits left, so if anyone wants one for their youth group, please read below, take care, God Bless, and have a Great Week.....Mikey
Saturday, April 29, 2006 Let's get some BINGO Games Going!
I was actively involved in church youth groups from the end of 6th grade until the day I graduated from high school, then on graduation night I began to use drugs, when I decided to get off the drugs (a little over 16 years ago), what I had learned in those church youth groups made it a lot easier to understand what I had to do to get off and stay drugs...
One of my fondest memories when was when the first youth group I was involved in would go to a senior citizen's home and get a Bingo game going for them, we would bring white elephant gifts from home to give them as prizes and would play until all of them won something, one person would call the numbers, while others would help them mark their cards and know when to yell "Bingo!" and others would go around to visit those that didn't come to play Bingo, it was a lot of fun and it taught us a lot about helping others...
I would like for more church youth groups and youth organizations to do this, so I am in the process of purchasing 12 (to start with) Bingo cage sets, with cards and markers, to send to church youth groups or youth organizations that would like to go to an assisted living center (think that's what they call them now) and get regular Bingo games going in those facilities...
So I have all my ducks in a row, the church youth group or youth organization will need to have "all" of the the following info on the church's or organization's letterhead...
Name of church youth group or youth organization... Mailing address of church or organization... Contact email address... Name and adress of assisted living center... Contact name and number for church or organization... (to verify) Contact name and number at assisted living center... (to verify)
Mail it to...

Inactivity...
Yeah, I've just been popping in and out of MySpace a few times a day and not spending very long, have hardly posted anything here on the blog too, well...
Starting next Saturday I will be attending Online Trading Academy for a week and won't be online at all, because I won't have internet access, except to check out what's going on at Wall Street, have been been putting in 3 to 5 hours a day studying up for it so I'll be able to keep up and this week I'll be doing even more studying, but will post a new recipe either tomorrow or Monday to keep ya'll happy...
After taking the class I will be busy applying what I've learned, of course, to start my new carreer as a professional trader, but will still drop by when I can and will try to post more than I have in the last few months too...
In other words, I won't be forgetting MySpace, just won't have a chance to be on here as much...
For a heads up on future posts, I planted over 100 lilly bulbs today, in a section of the yard which had a lot of weeds, and should have photos of them in early spring...
While I'm at it, would like to remind everyone that MikeyWear quality infant and toddler clothing (I can assure you that I will make the time to rapidly fill all orders that come in) and iamnotagenious.com shirts and coffee mugs will make great Christmas gifts...
And I would like to once again thank those who have been continuing to pray for Debbie, her problems flared up again at the end of last month, but after adjusting her meds she is doing much better...
I hope everyone is having a really Wonderful Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Crepe Myrtles Blooming!
Would like to thank all who have sent me birthday wishes (yeah, I turn 48 tomorrow), will get started on individual thank yous in the morning...
Had written in February about the Crepe Myrtles I'm sculpting (pruning off everything smaller than a 2 pencil and bending the stray branches back into the tree) in the front yard and promised photos when they started blooming, so today we've had a few days of no rain for them to perk up and...

Pruned the one to the right of the two trees a little late, so it is just beginning to bloom, will post photos of it once it fills out...
I hope eveyone has a very Wonderful Hump Day, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

A blog post that is not a re-run...WoW!
Yeah, as you may have noticed, I've been posting re-runs, Deb's pseudo seizures (thanks to all who have been praying for her) started up again and I've been feeling kinda down...
The Crepe Myrtles are in fool bloom, but it's been raining just about every day, when we get a couple of days of sun and they have had a chance to perk up will take photos and post them, in the mean time I saw blooms from them halfway down the street today...
Started advertising in Micheal Boddy's Weekly Journal, have an ad in Susan's column (posted under "What We Think") and a couple of other places each week, he's thinking about starting breakfasts up again...
Been making some money in the stock market from the Cramer Effect and will be joining Online Trading Academy on Monday, get some training and support to ride the upcoming Bull Market (if you think we are in a Bull Market now, well, you ain't seen nothing yet) for all it's worth, putting the profits into bonds, of course...
I'm less than 100 MySpace profile views away from 10,000, so if those who have the time would go to my MySpace profile and help me get past that benchmark I would really appreciate it...
So anyway, I just wanted to write something that wasn't a re-run, hope everyone has a Wonderful Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Operation AC Update
Got this letter from Operation AC, an organization that I think is really, really neat...
Our lives were changed when an email from Chris arrived in 2003" Mom can you organize and raise money to send us some air conditioners? It's 143 degrees in my HMMWV..." Long story short, we did send some air conditioners - 9,400 air conditioners to be exact. But that was before the people running this war stopped cooperating and made it nearly impossible to get air conditioners to IRAQ. Until now. For over a month, we have secretly been sending air conditioners to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. We did this to test whether what we were being told by the people at the Pentagon was actually true, that air conditioners wouldn't and couldn't get there. What we found, instead, was that they got to their destinations. That tells us that the decision to block air conditioner shipment, because that's what they are doing, blocking the shipments, is being made by someone at the Pentagon. No doubt this someone is making decisions like this from the comfort of an air conditioned office.
Let me quote some emails I've received about this:
"...I will look into it. I do know several folks at dod are cautious about sending air conditioners.. it competes with other types of shipments...or so they say."
"..The competition is filling up the mail distribution with things as big as air conditioners. The folks here at dod often talk about the air conditioners and how difficult that was for the mail delivery system in country."
I also took the extra step of asking if the Baghdad mail center would be able to accept them if we flew them there privately, and that is when I was told a very loud "NO!" I was told that the Baghdad mail center will not accept air conditioners, period. Given what was said in those emails so plainly proves that "they" think they know best for our guys on the ground in all things. Meanwhile, our troops are being bound in red tape with outsourced vendors who have to comply with contractual obligations whether it be processing the mail (KBR does that) or getting air conditioners to our troops. (The mail center in Baghdad only processed 1,450 ACs which we mailed in 2004. The rest we paid DHL to deliver.)
With this said, we have spent the last month creating a delivery and logistics path right to the units themselves via private carrier. While I can buy one air conditioner for $85, it costs me an additional $100 to send it. Yes, it may sound insane, but we have done it thousands of times and here is why: Our government is getting air conditioners to our troops on the ground by "authorizing" the local Iraqis to sell to them.
Why? Because KBR is only contracted to replace air conditioning units in the living spaces (trailers) and common spaces which they contractually provide and nothing more. This means there is a huge supply and demand issue. Our troops have great difficulty getting them, and when they do, the price is huge. As well, once they do buy them, they are left waiting and waiting for them to be delivered as the Irauis get them from Kuwait. This is going on while it is 114 degrees in the shade and our guys are in their full battle rattle sweating their behinds off. Literally. My concern is our troops and to help them, we need to band together to get this done. The only and best way to do it is for us to buy them in the USA and ship them via air freight via DHL Danzas Air & Ocean to Iraq and Afghanistan. In other words, Operation AC is back where we started: getting sorely needed air conditioners to our troops.
On Friday, June 22nd we will begin taking sign-ups from S4s (unit supply personnes) and entire deployed units who are in need of the air conditioners. We already have many units on the ground asking, and our inbox is stuffed with several hundred emails. I asked the people who run this war to help me and they flat out told me, "NO!" (They're very good at that.) Today as I prepare this letter, 50 air conditioners are headed to our troops in Al Asad, Iraq. There are many, many other units waiting for our help. Please consider a donation to us.
Nothing is impossible because through God all things are possible. I pray that my fellow Americans answer this call and help Operation AC help our troops by doing what we do best - sending air conditioners.

A Couple Of Books To Brainstorm By...
When I'm starting to run out of ideas to promote MikeyWear, all I have to do is read one of these two books, my brain will start churning again and so many ideas ideas will pop out that my biggest problem will be figuring out which one to use first...
I can't say which has helped more at getting my imagination working to come up with marketing ideas for MikeyWear that others either haven't thought of and/or haven't tried...
Dayna Steele refered me to this one when she had her show on the The Biz Radio Network...

Where I will be reading some of the "Ginsuisms," like Ginsuism #2 (If they say it can't be done, you'll just have to do it yourself), #4 (Zig when other people zag), and to me the most annoying in practice, but most valuable, #13 (Not making a mistake is the biggest mistake) and think "hey, this confirms what I'm doing this right," I will read further and my personal definition of the Ginsuisms will have changed dramatically, then each time I re-read it those definitions change again and again... Some of the Ginsuisms are very sound business and marketing advice that I wasn't aware of and now take to heart, like Ginsuism #7 (Keep your secrets to yourself), and "there's more," they have a very helpful "Bonus Ginsuism" at the end of the book... There are sometimes I am lost without it, when we turned the old study into Debbie's sewing room, Deb took all of the books into my office and I then couldn't find it, so after calling the bookstore in Lake Jackson and finding out they didn't have it, I invented an excuse to go into Houston to buy another... Even if you aren't involved in Business and/or Marketing, it's still a great story! If you want more info on this book, you can go to the Ginsu Guys Website.
When going to get my 2nd Wisdom of Ginsu (see above) I had the money for a 2nd book and found his one, by Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval of the Kaplan Thaler Group the creators of the AFLAC Duck and the infamous Clairol Herbal Essences Shampoo commercials...
BANG!: Getting Your Message Heard In A Noisy World
Just how do you get attention for anything in the age of information overload? Create an idea so different, so polarizing, so unexpected that it cannot be ignored say Linda Kaplan Thaler and Robin Koval, whose advertising agency created award-winning and memorable ads for the AFLAC duck and Clairol Herbal Essences Shampoo. In their new book, BANG!: Getting Your Message Heard in a Noisy World they share the methods behind creating Big Bang messages, along with contrarian advice on inspiration, creativity, and intuition. Witty, wise, and chock full of stories behind some of the most successful advertising campaigns of our time, BANG! is a pleasure to read and a profitable look at making creativity work in your company. (Credit: electricartists.com)
According to Thaler and Koval, big bangs are achieved in an atmosphere where rules are ignored, organization is compressed, chaos is embraced and intuitive thinking is encouraged, like what goes on at our zoo, they tell a great story too, and if you are into trivia, after reading this you will know more about the AFLAC Duck than anyone else...
If you insist on being stuck in a rut for the rest of your life, going to team meetings, thinking you know it all, wasteing way too much time talking about things like how you should be thinking outside of the box, and not actually accomplishing anything, then these books are not for you, but if you want to be able to figure out things like how to destroy THE BOX, that folks going nowhere are only talking about, and be a success, you should read these two book over and over and over, etc...

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Tips For Non-Profit Organizations...
The writings about organizations that I support can be found at:
Before we begin, Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps (BACH) will be celebrating the Annual BACH Barn Bash on Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 5:30pm to 11:00pm at the Brazoria County Fair Grounds in Angleton. The event, which is open to the public, features free activities and games (Moonwalk, pony rides, hay rides, clowns, the Big Bouncy Bus, face painting, etc) for children, regardless of their ability or disability; door prizes; live and silent auctions; and music by the BACH Boosters Band. Catfish dinners with all the trimmings will be available for $12.50 a plate (children 12 and under eat free). Meal tickets are available from steering team members or may be purchased at the door. All money raised will be used to provide services to children served by BACH's Early Childhood Intervention and Support Services Programs. From Monday, August 14, 2006:
Back in October (I think), KC Strate of Bach ECI (Brazoria County Association for Citizens with Handicaps/Early Childhood Intervention) had come by the Friday Morning Breakfast, so for coming by the breakfast I stopped by there to donate some MikeyWear and get more info for a post I wrote on 11-14-2005, and she had sent a thank you card with a hand written note, with a photo of one of the children that were being helped there with Santa... Now I haven't sold that much MikeyWear yet to be able to make many contributions to the folks I have promised a portion of the off the top profits to and those contributions have been small, but the last time I sent checks to those I had promised to for he sales of the "Jesus Loves Me" t-shirts, without really thinking about it I decided to send an amount equal to what I sent to the others to Bach ECI, and received a thank you card with a hand written note with a photo of one of the children they are helping there... Twice since then I've been with folks who were having a fundraiser and were trying to decide who they should contribute the money they raised to, and the 1st organization that popped in my head was, yep, you guessed it, Bach ECI... And I thought it was because she had come by the Friday morning breakfast... So about a week after last month began I did an inventory of the MikeyWear I have in stock and there were some that were slightly damaged (had a stain or two), so when deciding who to donate them to, well, there's no need to guess who popped in my head anymore... Then on the way to donate the slightly damaged MikeyWear to Bach ECI I stopped by the post office to check the mail, most of the time I just check to see if there's anything that needs immediate attention (like a request for a Bingo Cage Kit) and throw the rest back in till it starts filling up and this was one of the times I grabbed them all... Now as anyone that donates to organizations knows, for the week after the 1st of the month, most all of the organizations you donate to mail you a request for more money, some with a return envelope and some without, and that doesn't really matter, because I never can find the return envelopes when I'm sending contributions and use my own anyway, so when taking the mail to the car after pulling it all out of the mailbox I realized why BACH ECI is always the 1st place that always pops in my head when I'm thinking about what non profit organizations to make a contribution to... It's time to take a break from this to copy and paste what I wrote about BACH ECI last year, so folks don't have to try to maneuver that far back in the archives to read it... "Research shows that growth and development are most rapid in the early years of life. The earlier problems are identified, the greater the chance of eliminating or minimizing them. Early intervention responds to the critical needs of children and families in Brazoria County by Promoting development and learning, Identifying and providing early intervention and treatment, Providing support to families, Coordinating services, Decreasing need for costly special programs..." Also to note: BACH ECI is a United Way Agency, so if you are contributing to the United Way through your work, you can designate all of your United Way donations to go to BACH ECI or any other United Way Agency that you choose... After picking up the "Jesus Loves Me" infant t-shirts on Friday afternoon, I went by BACH ECI to donate some to them, was able to see their new expanded facility, and I can assure you that they will be making even more of a difference in this community, take care and God Bless.....Mikey OK, guess it was after I got the new t-shirts and not right after I met KC, but I'm going to try to go to bed before midnight and don't want to have to finish this after getting up, so that's going to go without an edit... So when I went by there today to get KC's permission to share her secret with you (which she obviously did, because you are reading this, of course!) and asked her if I could, she said "which one?" Then she offered me a cup of coffee and gave it to me in an Early Childhood Prevention mug and she told me to keep it, then when we sat down to chat for a few she pulled out chips and offered me a bag... And during our conversation she asked me to be their back-up Santa for the Christmas Party there in case their main Santa was ill, don't think she asks everyone that, though... Think it's going to be some time till I think of another organization to donate to 1st when I'm making contributions... Hmmm, wonder just how many secrets KC does have...
Would also like to mention that 10 percent of the commisions from sales of the Sissy Merry Christmas merchandise will go to Bach, hope everyone has a Wonderful Wednesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Monday, May 21, 2007 Coming up with your own ideas for businesses and investments...
You can read all of my writings about Entrepreneurship at:
Have noticed that a lot of new readers are starting their own businesses or thinking about it and thought this might be helpful, so they don't have to go back into the archives till they have the time I'm re-posting this for them...
From Friday, January 06, 2006 Subject: An example...
I've been encouraging those that hate their job or are unemployed to be their own boss, telling them to look and listen to find what others in their community want to buy and is not easily available, then start a business selling it...
While getting MikeyWear.Com going I see new opportunities for businesses almost daily, but have refrained from listing any of them, because those that find them on their own will have more of a passion for what they are doing and will be more of a success...
I've decided, though, to give an example, and it's also something that will get a person out there to see what else they can sell and get them the startup money to sell it at the same time...
Most anywhere you go, there are boats that the owners are trying get out from in front of their homes, to the point that they will give it to anyone that will take it away, take the boat away for them and take it straight to a salvage yard and get whatever the salvage yard will pay for the boat, but keep the trailer...
Then build a jerky stand on the trailer and build a deck on the rest of the trailer to lounge on when there are no customers and draw attention...
Now you can buy pre-packaged jerky online and you usually have to buy it in big quantities which costs a lot, but you can also go to just about any meat shop and make arrangements with the owner to buy their jerky pre-packaged in smaller quantities, another advantage to that is you can get it unlabeled and then label it yourself with the name of your business...
Although selling on a roadside is not the safest thing in the world, you can do that, but a much safer alternative would be to rent space (and it usually doesn't cost much) at the different outdoor weekend events (festivals, drag races, etc...) in your area...
Then, when someone walks up to your jerky booth, give them a little bitty teensy weensy taste of the jerky you sell (to get their taste buds going, of course!) and roughly 8-9 out of 10 will buy some jerky from you...
Keep in mind that is just the basics, you will need to figure out the rest (like building the stand and deck securely on the trailer, how much to sell it for, abiding by your local laws, etc...) on your own...
Hope this can help someone, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
From: Saturday, January 07, 2006 Subject: How I came up with example...
In the previous blog, I gave an example of what someone could do to start their own business with not much money and be making money in a short time...
Here is how I came up with it...
While starting MikeyWear.Com, I became friends with a dude that had a trailer with a jerky stand on it, selling pre-packaged jerky that he bought in bulk from the web, and saw that 8-9 out of 10 of all the folks he gave an itsy bitsy teenie weenie piece of jerky bought some of his jerky...
The idea for using a boat trailer came from the boat in front of my next door neighbor's house that took months for him to be able to give away...
Selling the boat to a salvage yard came from driving by one...
The idea to set up the stand at weekend events came from going to a local festival and seeing hot food stands that had rented space...
The idea of buying the jerky from a local meat market came while getting a roast at one, seeing that they sold their own pre-packaged jerky, and asking a few questions...
Now, with this in mind, before anyone sets up a jerky stand to sell jerky, please 1st take a look around your community to see what the folks there want, then look, ask questions, and listen, to figure out a way to sell it, I'm sure that you can come up with a much better idea, and it will be your idea, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
From: Sunday, January 08, 2006 Subject: Another example...
This one would take more money to start than a jerky stand, but then I'm just describing the thought process to come up with an idea for a business in your community, so anyway...
How many times have you gone by one of those stands selling snow cones (AKA: Shaved Ice) and although you wanted to get one, you didn't feel like pulling over, getting out of your vehicle, etc...
Then after you get home the ice cream truck comes by your home, do you want to buy an ice cream bar?
But if that truck going by your home with the very annoying tune sold snow cones, would you buy one?
Would the kids that you see on your street buying ice cream from the ice cream truck be more excited about getting money from their parents to buy a snow cone?
If you had a truck going through your neighborhood selling snow cones? Would they sell?
And if you sold ice cream, you would have to pay the company that makes the ice cream bars to make them and would need to pay for freezer capacity to store the ice cream bars until you can sell them, but if you sold snow cones in that truck, since you would be making the snow cones yourself from scratch and could get the ice you needed to make them daily, your profits would be higher...
But I will point out once again, if you take a look around your community and give some thought to how you can start your own business there, I'm sure that you can come up with a better idea than this, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Posted: Wednesday, February 08, 2006 Topic: Speaking of Malls...
If you do the necessary research, there are many places to find ways to start investing for a future with only the few bucks in your pocket/purse/wallet each time you invest, and I believe that you will care more for the investment, will be less likely to liquidate your investment at a loss, and will probably try to have more in your pocket each time you invest...
And where there are a number of collectables and coin shops (yep, what I am referring to, but please dont limit yourself to just these and look further) in malls, they are not limited to just malls, dont spend much time, though, in the shops selling stuff that you have an interest in, but the shops or the parts of the shops you dont have an interest in, so you wont get caught up in what everyone else is buying and be able to take an objective look at how you can make a more serious investment...
Here is my experience with this...
Right after I stopped using drugs, I still had a craving for them, would have money in my pocket because I wasnt buying them, and didnt know what to do...
Meanwhile, my boss at the time was an avid collector of baseball cards and spent a lot of time telling me about them, the only interest I had ever had in baseball was in the later part of the 70s when some friends and I would get drunk in left field at Texas Ranger games and cheer for Al Oliver (didnt really pay attention to the Ranger games, but thought it was a lot of fun at the time, being with everyone else that was getting drunk in left field and cheering for "Big O"), but he was my boss, so I listened to him tell me about baseball cards...
Then one day he came to work with a few unopened baseball card wax packs that were a couple of years old, to open and see if there were any valuable cards, and before he opened the 1st one, he held it up and said "you know, unopened wax packs appreciate in value more than the cards themselves."
It was sometime in early 1990, but from what I already knew, even though the baseball card wax packs being sold at face value were for the 1990 season, the rookie cards would be of the rookies in the 1989 season, my boss had told me that there were a number of 1989 season rookies with Hall of Fame potential, and you had a choice of brands you could buy in any convenience store, so knowing that if I tried to liquidate anytime in the next decade, by the time baseball was a couple of months into the 1990 season I had invested in 100s of unopened baseball card wax packs...
Now where factors like what folks will think about Sammy Sosa's corked bat when he gets into the Hall of Fame will determine whether I make any money from the 100s of unopened 1990 season baseball card wax packs, it did serve the most important purpose of buying them, but if you take the time to go to all the different collectables and coin shops near where you live, focusing on the stores or parts of stores that you have no interest in, take the time to look around, get the shop owners, as well as the customers in the shops, to start talking and then listen to what they say, followed by your own research to see how safe the possible investments would be, Im sure you will find something much better that you can invest in, and it will be something you discovered...
And just think, if you find an idea for a business and an investment that are directly related, then follow through on both... WOW! YOU ARE AN EXPERT ON IT!
I Hope everyone has a really Wonderful Week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Friday, May 18, 2007 Special Message To Child Predators...
You can read about my views at:
For the benefit of those that are new this blog and/or don't know much about MySpace yet, I originally wrote this on July 14th and it still applies today...
If you are reading this and are not a child predator, this was not written for you so there is no reason to be offended, but if you are a child predator, well...
Attention Child Predators! MySpace Is Not A Safe Place For You!!!
You may be reading, listening to, or watching news reports about child predators on MySpace, thinking to yourself "duh, I can go to MySpace to find my next target," dont, pay more attention to the news reports, even though the reports more often than not place their focus on MySpace in a negative manner (where they usually say MySpace.Com with a sneer more times than necessary, the same way they say SUV a bunch of times when someone driving a SUV is in a wreck, like the wreck was actually the SUVs fault), they are reporting child predators being caught, taken to jail, and prosecuted...
The fact is, MySpace has helped folks realize how easy it is to catch you...
All over the country, local police task forces are now set up to catch you, the Sugar Land police task force alone has already caught over 80 of you since it began, and if you live in or are visiting Houston or its surrounding area, dont for a minute think you are safe by avoiding Sugar Land, they arent the only local police with a task force set up to catch you, more are being started too, and if you think you are going to find out on this blog who they are, well, you are sadly mistaken, because Im not going to tell you, Nanny Nanny Boo Boo, Stick Your Head In Doo Doo...
Theres others out there looking for you, parents concerned about their kids enough to monitor what they are doing on the internet is rapidly becoming cool the point that internet stalker moms are turning into a new fad, a lot of parents watch over the all of the children in their entire community too, and if they are the ones that find you, they will report you to the police and you will end up in the same place that you would go if its the police that find you...
You could even get 2-3 minutes of shame if its a TV news crew that catches you and turns you over to the police, 6-9 minutes if they show your arrest at 4, 6, & 10 o'clock...
Heres something else to think about: Renegades that take the law into the own hands could be the ones that catch you...
And last, but not least, MySpace is not the only place on the net where these folks are looking for you...
Since you can't get away with it anymore, if you want to have a really Great Week you need to give it up and give it up right now, get yourself some help for your problem, dont wait and do it today.....Mikey

This is reposted from August 07, 2006: Back on May 25th I had written about musicians selling their music themselves: And I see so many extremely talented musicians busting their behinds to get the attention of the record labels, so they can sell their souls to them and be packaged by folks in the company with no imagination whatsoever and have no control over their music, and actually their lives too, while under the contract, that it makes me want to cry, when, not including all the other online resources they have available to them, with MySpace alone they can use the opportunity it gives them to be able to affordably produce and sell their CDs, as well as be able to take look at the MySpace friends in their profiles and communicate with them to schedule very profitable sold out tours, then if they want to talk to a major record label, since they are already making good money they will have the leverage to set the terms and be able to control their music and their lives, and for those that did this, if the record labels wouldn't be able to give many of them a better deal than the ones they have already made for themselves I would be very surprised...Since then I've become friends here on MySpace with a number of aspiring authors, they are submitting the books they have put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into to the major publishers and if a publisher doesn't send a rejection letter and is interested, they almost always want the author's work to be heavily edited, then the author is in a dilemma about whether they should let the integrity of their book be diminished to get it published or continue to send it to other publishers...Well, not only MySpace, but the entire internet now provides authors an opportunity to publish a book and market it themselves, I've been told about a few of the companies they can use to publish their books (note: I have no experience with any of these, if you use one of these services you will first need to do your homework, going over what they offer with a fine tooth comb yourself, before you make any agreement with them), eBookDeal.net, lulu.com, and authorhouse.com, if there are any other companies doing this that any of you know about, please put the info about them in a reply to this post, and for those of you who want to reply about who you use to plug your book, all I ask is that you keep the size of your reply to a minimum, thanks in advance...Now regarding the marketing of your book, I would think that a real world marketing campaign to go along with your online marketing would be even more important than most online ventures, the best way I can think of off the top of my head to market your book with a small budget would be to do it with libraries, like if your book is a children's book, find a way to convince them to have you read your book during one of their children's hours, now to get them to notice you, you can try Jeff Crilley's book, Free Publicity, where he writes about coming up with ways to get the media's attention, I believe it would help you get the attention of libraries too, and if you get his book I really believe you should get his CD to go with it too, hearing Jeff tell his "Elvis Chicken" story to me was worth the price of both...As I state here regularly about any business venture, if you come up with the ideas and do the work yourself, you will have a passion for what you are doing and that will be a big factor in your success, if after you have already created a market for your book and then want to take a look at what major publishers have to offer, you will have more leverage at the bargaining table with them, like when they want to do something like heavily edit your book and you don't, and don't be surprised if they can't give you a better deal than the one you have already made for yourself...Heck, after writing this I'm now thinking about looking into publishing what I write here into a book, not sure, though, if I can handle adding another project to what I have going already, so going to file it away under "More Will Be Revealed" for at least a day or two, hopefully longer...OK Mikey, take a deep breath, relax...Hope everyone has a really Terrific Tuesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
Monday, May 14, 2007 Update From NACER Steve...
I've known Steve online for over 10 years now and have had the honor of watching a vacation he took to Southern Mexico evolve into this...
It's been some time since our last update, and much good work has been accomplished! I want to share with you the results of this work, where our challenges continue to be, and how you can help.
In August of 2006, we laid much important groundwork - establishing the voucher fund for homeless animals and those belonging to indigent families, funding multiple sterilization campaigns, and broadening our initiatives on the literacy and animal welfare fronts.
We made repeated forays into Punta Laguna and surrounding communities for feeding and anti-parasitic work, to set the example of compassionate care for the animals, to alleviate suffering and improve the health of both the animals and the people through the reduction of zoonotic conditions.
For the third time since August, we pulled into Punta Laguna with a trunk full of croqeta (kibble), and medicine. The kids know now that when they see us coming, it means an afternoon of paid work for them - each receiving 20 pesos for helping to carry bags of food throughout the village for distribution. Bits of salchichas (hot dogs) are filled with medication to combat the intestinal worms and external parasites which previously plagued the dogs of Punta Laguna, often passed from the animals to the children as well....
Evidence of our success is seen in the vastly reduced incidences of mange and ringworm in the animals.
While we would wish for an ideal world where everyone is compassionate and caring, we must take our victories in smaller strides. A sign of the acceptance we've gained in Punta Laguna was clearly evident, where we found a poor puppy restrained by stiff bailing wire, wrapped tightly around her neck. She likely was tied up as a result of chasing chickens or otherwise causing 'trouble', and we could not simply 'order' her owners to release her. However, we did gently but firmly inform them that this would ultimately result in the death of the dog and was causing her to suffer greatly, and asked them to tie her in a more humane way using rope instead. The family immediately complied, and her relief was evident in her eyes... Would that we could snatch her away from this hard life.... But we will keep coming back, and we will pray that we can make a difference for her as we have for scores of other animals in the village.
At a NACER sterilization clinic held in Cancun, was a similar horror - a chain being removed from the neck of a dog, where the chain had never been removed as the puppy grew to adulthood, and had become ingrown into it's skin. This is tragically not the first time we've encountered such suffering in our work....
Beyond colorful handouts, we continue to be committed to a long vision of education and opportunity for the children of the Maya. We know that the answers to the challenges we confront reside here, where real hope is found. We continue to ask for your retired laptop computers, of any generation!
Following our visit, we were asked by the village if we would conduct another sterilization campaign there. Our answer is completely dependent on your help! Building on the close rapport we have built with this community over the years, we believe that we stand a great chance of actually achieving a 100% success rate - something virtually unthinkable when we first began here four years ago. The cost would be nominal - we believe that for about $1000 we can accomplish this important task. Should we do so, then Punta Laguna could become not only a model community for others to emulate, but would also afford us a wonderful 'laboratory' from which to glean hard data to further support our critical work...
As for the Voucher Program, while we are deeply pleased with the results, we need to replenish the fund if this project is to remain viable and be sustained. Over the past year NACER proudly points to these accomplishments:
- The sterilization campaign of March '06 at the Cancun Perrera
- The feeding and antiparasitic program in Punta Laguna
- The launch of the LookBeyond Computer Literacy project
- Providing medicines and supplies to care providers throughout the region
- Major funding for three additional sterilization campaigns - including Punta Venado, Punta Alan, and a projected clinic in Xcalac/Muajual
- Establishment of the Tulum Voucher program
NACER is currently drastically under funded, and we need your immediate help to continue our work!!
We ask you to build on the wonderful good we've done together, and continue to partner with us into the future!
For more info about this or to make a donation, you can go to NACER.ORG...
I hope everyone has a Wonderful Week, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Thursday, April 26, 2007 Views On Life...
Since there are a bunch of new folks who have been looking at iamnotagenious.com and are now checking this blog out to find why I am doing things like sticking out my tongue and dressing up as a really weird clown, here's a couple of reposts that should shed a little light on the matter...
Wednesday, December 21, 2005 About The Legend Deal
Since MikeyWear.Com started, I have believed (and still do believe!) that it will become a Pop Culture Phenomenon and a few months back realized that it becoming that big would make me a Pop Culture Icon...
And you know, I just cannot allow that to happen!!! So since then, I have been putting a lot of time and energy to avoid "Icon" status by doing all I can to becoming a "Legend" instead... Rest assured, every time I refer to myself as a "Pop Culture Legend In The Making" or a "Great Texas Legend In The Making" or simply a "Legend In The Making," a bunch of giggling is going along with it, and I mean a bunch of giggling... Meanwhile, to be serious for a short very moment, I have discovered that with MikeyWear.Com I have the opportunity to make a difference and I will be doing my best to take advantage of that opportunity... Do I have political aspirations? Well, after watching the Circus in the US House when they had their Friday Night non-binding vote on the immediate pullout of the troops in Iraq on CSPAN about a month ago, I don't see how anyone could make a difference in politics (except maybe, Kinky Friedman, really like his proposal for "No Teacher Left Behind" legislation, will carefully study his proposal, as well as the rest of his campaign platform, before the March Primaries), and if I want to clown around, well...
 I already am...
So anyway, if anyone actually takes this legend thing seriously, please do not be blaming me, take care and God Bless.....Mikey Ps: Regarding whether I actually become some sort of legend or not, well, now really, WHO CARES??? I sure don't! Thursday, February 02, 2006 So soon? It has been brought to my attention that there are already folks saying and writing things about me that are not that nice, so...
If anyone hears or reads stuff about me that is not that nice, there are really only four options that they have...
Option A: Believe what they are told...
Option B: Not believe what they are told...
Option C: Wait and see if I really am going to do what I say I am going to do...
Option D: Not care...
They can pick any of the options, can also change their minds any time they want to, and there is no need for them to tell me which option they choose or change to... If anyone decides to choose Option A and doesnt think they are going to change their minds, I would like to leave one last thought with them...
And with that out of the way, I am going to continue to do what I am doing, take care, God Bless, and have a really Terrific Thursday.....Mikey

Wednesday, April 11, 2007 Drugfighters Turning Around A City?
You can read more about the City of Angleton, Texas in this blog's archives at:
On Friday nights, some of Angleton's citizens gather to get on a flatbed truck and, escorted by the Angleton Police, the flatbed takes them into neighborhoods where drugs are being sold, where they wave flashlights and chant slogans like "Hey! Hey! Ho! Ho! Crack Cocaine Has Got To Go!" and "Up With Hope! Down With Dope!"
They are called Turn Around Angleton Drugfighters...
Angleton is just one community participating in Turn Around America-The Wrice Process, founded by Herman Wrice and Andy Garr, where it's citizens actively take a part in chasing drug dealers out of town, when Angleton's citizen's were last involved with this in 1999, they were inducted by the Texas Senate into the Texas Drugfighters Hall of Fame for their "extraordinary effort and strength of purpose" and commended for their "courage, commitment, and dedication that make Texans proud."
Opinions about this are divided, of course, where some folks agree with the 76th Texas Legislature, others believe that it's misguided, ineffective, and a shabby way to treat other humans...
At first I thought this was plain silly and was just glad that the folks waved flashlights and not torches, but I gave it some more thought...
Angleton is part of what is referred to as The Brazosport Area, a bunch of small cities, that together, is designated by the US Census Bureau as a "Small Urban Area," now being off drugs for a little over 17 years, I try to help folks who are trying to get off drugs, and hear from them how they bought their drugs around here, basically, when the dope houses in their city were out of the drugs they wanted, they would go to one of the dope houses in another city...
So if it's Friday night and someone in another city is trying to buy drugs in their town and the dope houses are out of the drugs that they want, then they go to Angleton to buy their drugs and see this spectacle, it's a pretty safe bet that they will turn around and leave Angleton that night, and I can imagine that a good number of them will not come back to Angleton to buy their drugs...
Still, only time will tell if it will work in Angleton, it will be great for Angleton if it does, hope everyone has a Super Wonderful Wednesday, take care and God Bless......Mikey

We went fishing yesterday, and Debbie caught this Black Drum...
As well as 2 Catfish and a couple of Whitting, there was also a 17 inch Red that she had to throw back because it was too small...
In the mean time, my reign as the "Hardhead King" remains intact as I once again caught trash fish...
Hope everyone has a very Wonderful Weekend, take care and God Bless.....Mikey

Will be posting more Crepe Myrtle photos when they begin to bloom, as well as the Mimosa tree I'm sculpting when it's blooming...
So anyway, hope everyone is having a really Terrific Tuesday, take care and God Bless.....Mikey
